Joining the
Climbing Wall Manufacturers Association
Applications
should be made to the Executive Committee of the CWMA on an application
form (available HERE).
All prospective members must comply and agree with the terms set out in
the CWMA's Articles and Memorandum. Acceptance for membership will be
made on the following guidelines:-
- To have
been in the business of building climbing walls for a minimum of 12
months
- To have
supplied a list of climbing walls constructed by the applicant
- Full
members would normally have built at least 3 permanent climbing walls,
in different locations around the UK, each in excess of 50 square metres
surface area, that show a wide variety of different climbing styles,
including at least one leading wall. Each of these walls must be accompanied
by the appropriate specifications and series of engineering calculations.
In addition, a method statement for construction and risk assessment
for each of these projects must be supplied.
- Supply
details of insurance cover. This must include: Appropriate Employers,
Public and Product Liability insurance of at least £2 million.
All wall builders responsible for design will also require Professional
Indemnity Insurance and Contractors "All Risks" Insurance.
- Health
& Safety. Have an appropriate company Health & safety policy,
and to work to that policy. Such a policy should include means of compliance
with current COSHH and CHIP regulations in the companies workplace and
on site, and with regard to disposal of waste.
- Be able
to demonstrate appropriate employee training, monitoring and control,
and workplace conditions.
- Provide
satisfactory details of the business' legal status.
- Be an
associate member of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC).
- Comply
with all manufacturing and engineering standards specified by the Association.
- Once
a CWMA member, be prepared and able to build all climbing walls to draft
CEN Standard EN 12572 (1999)
- Provide
evidence of product testing and testing procedures.
- Be able
to show evidence and ability to meet the CDM regulations where appropriate.
